Preventing Yeast Infections

It is not always possible to prevent a vaginal yeast infection, but by following a few simple procedures, you can almost guarantee that you will not suffer from one. The best way to avoid contracting an infection is by ensuring that your personal hygiene is good and that you try to eliminate warm, moist areas in which the yeast thrives. Other ways to prevent becoming infected include:

By wearing loose-fitting clothes, you allow air to circle around the vagina ensuring that it does not get too hot and you do not sweat. Tight clothes, such as bike shorts, panty hose and tight jeans, prevent this air from getting in. Clothes which hug your body can trap heat and moisture in which will in turn lead to perfect surrounding for yeast to grow.

You should also make sure that you change out of wet clothing as soon as possible. This includes clothing that is sweaty after exercise. This is in order to prevent the overgrowth of yeast in the moist surroundings.

Avoiding soaps and deodorants which are highly perfumed is another way to prevent a yeast infection. These types of products can cause an imbalance in the body’s alkaline balance which can ultimately lead to a yeast infection.

Practicing good hygiene is vital in preventing such infections. You should ensure that you wipe from front to back after using the toilet so that bacteria is not spread from the rectum to the vagina. It is also wise to make sure that your genitals are completely dry after you shower or have a bath and before you put on your clothes. When you are on your period, you should always change your tampon or sanitary towel regularly as tampons can harbor bacteria and sanitary towels can cause a moist environment for the yeast to grow.

If you are diabetic, always make sure that your blood sugar levels are monitored regularly. If you have high levels of sugar in your blood, tis can cause an increase in the growth of yeast.

Finally if you find that you are suffering from recurring yeast infections, you should take a trip to your doctor as you may need stronger medication or it could be a sign that something else is wrong. Recurrent infections can be avoided by inserting boric acid capsules into the vagina or eating yogurt win order to maintain the proper balance of yeast in the body.

I was very pleased with this book as it was quite a bit larger than I expected and has a huge amount of useful information. The explanations of benefits from fruits and vegetables is amazing and I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in a healthier diet. It is filled with healthy recipes as well as advice on health related issues. Worth the money I spent.

This book was published in 1993, fourteen years ago. It is very outdated (pre-Viagra.) Would you go to a doctor whose medical library was fourteen years old? I think not.

Review (rating: 2):
I bought this book because my doctor put me on this diet. I did learn some thins, but I was somewhat disappointed. There does not seem to be a "standard" for the Candida Diet.
This book disagrees with what my doctor told me I could eat.
I should have paid more and bought the book "Eating Your Way to Good Health."

The good news:

This book produced by the editors of Men's Life and "Prevention" magazine is a virtual cornucopia of information on health and sex: symptoms, statistics, diseases, problems, remedies, folklore, treatments, misinformation, and general non-medical advice: what to do and what not to do; who to see and who not to see, clearly written in a very readable font, all arranged alphabetically and cross-indexed.

The bad news:

Most of the information is sketchy and all too brief and goes un-cited, and thus it would have been better if it had references to books, articles and websites for further more in-depth information.

But for these drawbacks, and as a "quick-and-dirty" reference, this is the guide to have. Three Stars
