Vitamin E and Its Many Health Benefits
Vitamin E is one the more important vitamins for helping to keep the body
healthy. Perhaps the most known health benefits of vitamin E is that it helps keep the skin fresher and younger looking. Blueberries are a
rich source of vitamin E as they contain high amounts of antioxidants that the skin needs to keep it radiant.
Vitamin E is believed to be an antioxidant. Antioxidants fight the free radicals in the body. Free radicals are agents that
destroy cells and cause cancer. When there are not enough antioxidants in the body to fight the free radicals, medical conditions like
heart disease and some types of cancer can develop. According to studies, vitamin E can help lower the risk of bladder cancer by up to 50%.
Thus, consuming foods that are rich in vitamin E can help the body's immune system fight free radicals. Foods rich in vitamin E include
nuts, peppers, spinach, seeds and olive oil.
There are speculations that vitamin E can prevent Alzheimer's disease. While this claim is yet unproven, there are studies that
are aimed at discovering the role that vitamin E plays in lowering the risk for developing neurological diseases like Alzheimer's. Vitamin E
is also believed to help in the growth of connective tissues and it has positive effects on regulating the blood cells.
You can derive vitamin E from food sources, but you can also get the necessary amounts of vitamin E by taking supplements. If you
are not getting the necessary amount of vitamin E from your diet, taking a vitamin E supplement is your next best bet. Medical conditions
such as anemia, rheumatoid arthritis, epilepsy in children, burns and immune functionality in older people can be remedied or relieved by
vitamin E supplements.
Vitamin E has so many health benefits that there is simply no logical reason to not include in your diet foods that are rich in
this vitamin. You also have the option of taking a vitamin E supplement if you cannot get much vitamin E from food sources.
