If you
have ever passed a field which
has a number of large mirrors
all pointing towards the sun,
the likelihood is that you are
looking at a solar power
system. The aim of these
systems is to direct the
sunlight to one particular area
and use the heat to heat up the
liquid (such as oil) that flows
along the pipes. This is
actually known as a
Parabolic-trough system. It
heats the oil which in turn is
used to boil water in order to
power a steam generator which
then powers electricity.
This is
an incredibly efficient system
which works by using U-shaped
mirrors which are designed to
attract and collect heat from
the sun which is then
transferred onto the receiver.
Once the receiver has been
warmed up, it transfers into
fluid which helps to power the
engine. The heat from the sun
actually makes the fluid to
swell up against the piston and
produces a form of mechanical
power. There is enough power
generated which can power
generators and alternators. The
molten salt which runs through
the receiver heats up and
creates electricity through a
steam generator. The slat holds
in the heat for a number of
days before it is transformed
into electricity. The downside
however is that it is only
really suitable for industrial
power because so many solar
panels are
required. But,
there can be enough power
generated to create enough
energy for several days and
sometimes even more.
By studying the
project and ones which are
similar, we can start to
realize how solar power
actually works. It is only
when we actually see how
much power is conserved
that we can start to
realize how much is lost
and wasted each year.
Using solar panels such as
these is very beneficial
to businesses because
there is not the same
amount of problems such as
power failures and the
like. As long as all of
the machinery involved is
taken care of, there
should be no problems
whatsoever. This type of
industrial solar power can
actually trap a lot of
heat from the sun every
day, mirrors help with
this as they reflect the
sunlight. It is also
beneficial to have the
solar panels in a large
field which is open and no
obstacles such as large
trees in the way blocking
out the
sunlight.
Every
year, scientists come up with
new ideas after extensively
researching the idea of solar
power. Steam power has
always been used in relation to
solar power and even today is
what solar power really relies
on. In the future, many fields
will actually be full to the
brim with mirrors which are all
used for solar power. Maybe it
will become so popular that
other countries !V especially
those who enjoy a great deal of
annual sunshine !V adopt the
idea as well. Until then
however, more traditional
methods will be used to heat
our water and homes as well as
powering all of our
electricity.
Solar Power Your Home For Dummies (For Dummies (Home & Garden))
Amazon Price: $13.59 Used Price: $10.90 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 Review (rating: 5): This is a good introduction to how the energy from the sun can be put to practical everyday use. If you don't like to read a lot of technical stuff, this book is for you. Quick, easy reading the non-technical average person. with references for more information. This book has practical projects for the person who already has some knowledge of solar energy as well. If you're looking for a really detailed technical book of how to design and install your own solar collector (electrical or water), better get a different book. My 5-star rating is for those who are beginners or those that have a little knowledge of solar energy.
Photovoltaics: Design and Installation Manual
Amazon Price: $37.77 Used Price: $35.90 Average Customer Rating: 4.0 Review (rating: 5): There is no such thing as a perfect book, but I have read all of those other books on solar. None of them tell you how to setup a system. This one does. It comes as close to perfect as you they get.
Got Sun? Go Solar: Get Free Renewable Energy to Power Your Grid-Tied Home
Amazon Price: $12.89 Used Price: $11.50 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 Review (rating: 5): I was thinking about making the move to solar so I decided to purchase this book and do some online research. This book does a great job explaining how solar works and what you can expect with respect to wattage from a solar array based on the size of the array, where you live, time of year, etc. It explains the different types of solar installations and helps you decide which one is best for you. It also shows how to pursue local, state and federal tax incentives to help offset the costs of purchase and installation.
Solar Water Heating: A Comprehensive Guide to Solar Water and Space Heating S...
Amazon Price: $16.47 Used Price: $16.28 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 Review (rating: 5): After reading reviews for this book I made the purchase hoping to have the basics of solar water heating covered. The book does that very well. Like most of us I'd love to see a book covering a detailed step by step installation with tools, equipment, costs, etc. But people with a handy man ability or a bit more like myself (builder)can figure things out pretty easily. Over All an excellent resource!

Amazon Price: $13.57 Used Price: $10.95 Average Customer Rating: 4.0 Review (rating: 5): The title is disparaging but the contents are excellent! Anyone considering attempting to learn about Solar Power should read this book. It has an excellent chart for determining what you should consider before you start your project. It is written in easy to understand language that a lay person can easily understand. I highly recommend it.
