Breaking Out of Low Self-Esteem

Now matter what anyone calls it, low self-esteem and feelings of inadequacy are one and the same.   But breaking out of low self-esteem is difficult unless the affected individual takes the necessary steps to alleviate the problem himself. This can mean seeking out professional help, which can and does take a lot of effort and courage.

Sometimes, facing the cause of your anxiety is the best way for you to break out of having low self-esteem. If you are nervous about a situation wherein you are afraid you might fail, the best way to get over your fears is to confront them. However, don't try to tackle the whole world all in one day. 

Anyone who is embarking on a journey of self discovery needs to start slowly. Going over the process gradually helps, especially in situations wherein you could possibly suffer an anxiety attack and are likely to immediately give up the activities you love simply because you are afraid. Too many expectations too soon may trigger anxiety attacks on a sub-conscious level. A person who has low self-esteem is probably also suffering from depression, which can turn into unpredictable anxiety.

One of the ways to accomplish this is to concentrate on your abilities, skills and interests. List them down. Some people are surprised about how much they have accomplished during their lifetime. Building on that can make a big difference on how you feel about yourself.

Self-esteem can be improved by keeping a balanced and healthy diet coupled with regular outdoor activities and exercise. A lot of people are tied down to their jobs all week; they rarely go out. Try spending time with friends and your family. You can do outdoor activities with them. Hiking, golfing or camping are great ways to spend time to get rid of tension that may lead to low self-esteem.
