Recycling Ideas For Family Travel

Going on a family vacation can be a great experience, although many people tend to fall into bad habits while they are away. There is no need to leave to recycling responsibility back at home while you go away. There are many things you can do even when far away from home.

If you are staying in a hotel of guesthouse, always let the staff know that you would like to reuse your towels. This will significantly cut down on laundry, therefore saving both money and energy. You can do the same with your bed linen. There is no need to have fresh towels or bed linen every day. If you are worried about your towels getting mixed up, make a simple mark on them with something like a safety pin or a bit of thread. With a family, towels can get mixed up and there is an easy way to prevent that; from home, get a couple of safety pins and some beads. Even something as simple as reusing your towel for a few days will have an enormous impact on conserving energy.

Make sure that you turn off all of the lights when you leave your hotel room and also any TVs or radios which may be switched on. It is very easy to be forgetful while you are away, but leaving a TV running while you are out will waste a whole lot of energy. If you find that you keep leaving lights on or similar, try leaving a note by the door to remind yourself as you are leaving the room. There are some hotels which will remind you to as they have a sign at eye level by the door.

You could also bring your own soap and shampoo and leave the smaller bottles for those guests who forget theirs. This will cut down on waste. You can get travel sizes in shampoo and conditioner now and soap travels very well in a small sandwich bag.

Similar to this train of thought, remember to turn down the heating or air con which will continue running while you are out of the room. You could also close the drapes on the window as this will keep the room cool if it very hot outside and will also keep the room warm if it is cold.

There is no need to leave the main light on all night. If you are traveling with little ones who need a light on for comfort, you could bring a small travel light with you. Another idea is to bring a couple of plastic cups which you as a family can share around for your entire trip. This will cut down on the amount of water needed for washing up. Likewise, you should avoid room service if you can. When you eat in the restaurant, the dishes are already being washed there.

There is no reason not to conserve energy while you are on holiday and a few simple things will save an enormous amount of energy having a big impact on conserving the atmosphere. If everyone did this, there would be a great deal of difference.
