Metal Detectors – What Are They Used For

You will find that installing metal detectors will be very helpful. Searching military mine fields, security checkpoints, prospecting and beach-combing are just some of the many uses. The metal detector is also included in the detector radar family, because many use radar in their systems. Other types of radar detectors are systems for the car, systems for weather detection, and cordless systems.

Metal detectors are made up of an oscillator that produces an alternating current that passes through a coil, which creates an alternating magnetic field. When an electronically conductive metal is near the detector, the magnetic field changes in which enables the operator to see where the metal is located. The most widely used detectors are handheld as they are more available. Some portable devices are so sophisticated they can detect landmines. Nonetheless, if the metals are extremely deep, a type of radar that can penetrate the ground will be utilized along with a metal detector in order to find the hidden metals.

Metal Detectors Basically, a metal detector consists of an oscillator, which produces alternating currents that then pass through coils, thus causing an alternating magnetic field. As a result, the magnetic field is altered by producing eddy currents of air when metal is detected. Hand held wands are a popular type of metal detector. The uses for this model are nearly limitless, up to and including the task of hunting for mines. In tasks for which the metals are deeply submerged under the ground for a simple handheld detector, the metals are located by using a detector with radar that penetrates the ground.

Metal detectors can create a great deal of excitement. Some of the most useful and common tools are used today. It is unimaginable that most people will not come into contact with at least one in their life. As part of the radar detector family, the metal detector uses a ground penetrating radar system to discover lost objects. Stuck in a security checkpoint line at the airport?  Why not use the time to contemplate the history of the device that's such a part of travel life these days -- the metal detector.

Bounty Hunter Tracker IV Metal Detector
Amazon Price: $99.99
Average Customer Rating: 4.5
Review (rating: 5):
I received my Tracker IV three days ago and it seems to be just fine. Assembly took only 5 minutes and the owners manual is very easy to understand. I simply went into my back yard and dug up 11 cents in no time! I also found some scraps of metal and a few nails laying around. I live in an area which is rich in Civil War history and I am looking forward to doing some more prospecting. For the price, the Tracker IV is well worth it! Also, you can use any type of headphones on the device as long as you have the converter peice which changes the size of the plug. I'm sure you can get one at Radioshack or somewhere...
