If
you speak to
any pregnant
lady who is in
her third
trimester and
ask her how she
is feeling, you
will normally
hear the word
tired somewhere
in there. In
fact, one of
the first tell
tale signs that
you are
expecting a
baby is that
you feel
extremely tired
in the
afternoon for
no reason
whatsoever.
You might find
that a simple
action such as
walking around
the block
leaves you
exhausted and
in need of an
afternoon nap.
The energy
levels that you
are used to
working with
are now being
taken over for
growing a baby
so you actually
need to find
new and renewed
energy from
somewhere.
While of
course, if you
are tired you
should sleep,
but there are
other ways to
restore your
energy levels
such as
changing your
diet. By
changing your
diet, you will
find it a lot
easier to make
it through the
day if you do
not have the
chance for an
afternoon
nap.
The first thing
you should
consider is
actually
changing your
meal size. If
you eat a large
meal, you are
going to feel
tired
afterwards, no
doubt about it,
regardless of
whether you are
pregnant or
not. But, if
you are
pregnant, you
will more than
likely feel
even more tired
after you have
eaten that
meal. The best
thing to do is
eat a smaller
meal, but more
often. Eating
six small meals
a day will help
to combat
fatigue.
Always make
sure that you
eat a good
breakfast. This
is the best way
to start the
day and will
refuel your
body after a
night without
any food. For
your breakfast,
you should
stick to
complex carbs
and protein.
For example, a
banana and a
whole grain
cereal are
perfect. These
foods will stay
with you for a
long time and
keep your blood
sugar and
energy levels
up for some
time.
Make
sure that
you never
skip
lunch.
There are
many
people who
may skip
lunch but
make it up
with a
large
dinner.
This is
not
healthy!
It is bad
enough
when
you’re not
pregnant,
but even
worse if
you are.
You need
that
midday
meal for
more
refueling
and as an
energy
boost. As
with your
breakfast,
protein
and whole
grains are
the best.
A whole
grain pita
filled
with a
chicken
salad is
perfect.
Apples and
grapes are
a good way
to finish
off a
lunch.
You should make
sure that you
eat most of
your calories
during the day.
You should aim
to eat 300 more
calories a day
in your second
and third
trimester.
But they should
come from
healthy food
such as nuts,
cheese,
vegetables, dip
and salad. Make
sure that you
don’t save your
biggest meal of
the day until
the night time
as you need the
extra calories
to actually
help you get
through the
day!
Always keep
away from quick
sugar fixes
such as candy
and also fast
food.
Finally, it is
very important
that you are
getting enough
iron. Spinach
and lean red
meat are
perfect for
this. Fatigue
can be a
symptom of an
iron
deficiency, so
give your body
an iron boost
through your
diet as well as
a
supplement.
Along with
eating well,
you should
ensure that you
get plenty of
rest and early
nights. It
won’t be long
before you have
a new born baby
so get the rest
while you
can!
