International Pet Travel Tips

International pet travel need not be an ordeal for your pet. How many times have you traveled to another country and pondered whether or not to take your pet? Perhaps you really really wanted to take him, but figured it would be all too complicated, not to mention unsafe for your beloved animal.

Well it does not have to be either unsafe or complicated. It is actually quite simple to travel international with your pet. They can be ultra safe and comfortable as well. Perhaps even more comfortable than you in your cramped airplane seat!

Tip 1 - Identification

Your animal must have an ID tag. No two ways about it! I think it goes without saying anyway, but I have to mention it as the first international pet travel tip because it is easy to forget this when you are in the hustle and bustle of packing for your vacation. A collar is fine, and you should also tag your pet's travel crate and any other items he has.

Tip 2 - Things to take with you

International Pet Travel Tips I know how hard it is to remember everything to take with you on vacation, so try to make a list of everything your pet will need. Of course, you can pick up additional supplies later (Unless you are traveling to a deserted island!). You definitely need the aforementioned ID tags. Also think of warm clothing if you are that way inclined with your pets. Food is a given. Water for long road trips. Toys for cats and perhaps a ball for the dog if you decide to stop on the way. Really just take along anything that will make your pet feel at home when he is undertaking international pet travel.

Tip 3 - Safety and comfort in the air and car

If you are driving, your car must be safe for your pet. Ideally a section of the car should be cordoned off for the animal. If this is not possible, then ensure the pet is not going to obstruct the driver, particularly dogs. Cats can be kept in their crate. It is ideal to have a large crate for your cat so he can walk around in it.

International pet travel is a joyous experience for you as you do not have to worry about your pet being stuck at home. It is also so exciting to take your pet on holiday, particularly to tropical beach destinations where your dog will absolutely love the water and sunshine.
