Air Travel with Your Pet

Taking your pets with you when you travel by air is something that many people do not consider. Most people either think it is not possible, or that it is simply not worth the trouble. Others believe that their pet may not be safe on the airplane and therefore choose to leave them at home whilst they go on vacation.

In reality, pet air travel is very accessible and most airlines will accommodate the needs of your pet. You no longer need to pay someone to come and feed your dogs while you are on vacation - simply take them with you instead! Your pets will not mind the air travel, and they will of course immensely enjoy their vacation with you.

When you are organizing your pet air travel, the first thing you should do is get a good check up at the vet. The pet should be given a clear bill of health so that he will not have any complications when flying. A healthy pet will not have any problems up in the air. You may need to show a health certificate when you book your pet air travel, so make sure you receive one of these from your vet.

Air Travel with Your Pet Your pet should of course be equipped with a good quality collar which houses an ID tag containing the pet's name, your name and phone number. You should also include your destination on the collar.

The next step is to buy a travel crate. Attempt to get a high quality one. They may cost a little more than the cheap ones, however you only want the best for your pet and you certainly do not want a crate that is going to open itself. A nice study hard plastic crate with a metal type door that locks in is ideal for your pet to travel by air. The words "Live Animal" should be written in large letters around the crate both on the sides and on the top.

You might also choose to attach a photo of your pet on the crate in a plastic covering. This is good for identification purposes.

Your animal will be able to feed if you attach a small container of food. The airline staff will give him food and water if required.

As you can see, pet air travel is not as complicated as people may think it is. Now you have that all out of the way, it is time to start enjoying your vacation with your pet!
