The Importance of A Paper Shredder
Long gone are the days when trash is just that. Today people’s personal rubbish is a significant contributor to identity theft and other such crimes. Trash cans are in fact goldmines for some people. It is right to be paranoid about what you throw away and shredders can help stem this paranoia. While most of us have been taught by family and at school that it is wrong to ‘snoop’ and go through other peoples belongings, some people don’t have the same morals and therefore it is no longer to think ‘well I wouldn’t dream of doing that and therefore neither would anyone else’. People do and they will. What might seem to you to be meaningless junk is to others one piece in the puzzle of stealing your identity. With the development of technology, criminals all over the world have access to much more information and nothing is irrelevant any longer. Shredding important documents has unfortunately become a necessity into insuring no one gets their hands on you ‘life’. It is not only businesses that should be worried; the average home is also at risk. There is also an argument that shredding documents also saves us from ourselves. It can often be too tempting to have that extra credit card form lingering around - just in case. Loan letters offering deals too good to be true can also be sorely tempting. Just throwing that letter away isn’t safe - as you may be tempted to go and retrieve it out of the trash. It is always best to save yourself the worry, financial debt and temptation; let your shredder do the hard work.
You will find that psychiatrists and counselors around the world often advise people to write a letter to someone who they are extremely mad with. Once that letter has been written, they then advise that you throw it away immediately, because the letter is designed to get your anger out but never designed to send. It is a practice which helps you deal with anger in a positive way. What happens if once you’ve thrown that letter away, someone goes through your trash retrieves the letter and knows all of your private thoughts. On the other hand, what if you decide to retrieve it and send it in a fit of rage? By shredding it after you’ve written it, you will immediately remove all of those worrying factors and have the knowledge that your letter is safely disposed of and will never come back to haunt you. Plus you should have calmed down and begun to see things rationally. The final example of how important paper shredders can be comes if you are sharing a house, or perhaps a dorm at college. While you may trust your housemates completely with your personal documents, what about all of their friends. Can you trust them and do you even know them? Investing in a small paper shredder will save you the worry of strangers rifling through your stuff. It is not worth being careless with your private documents and information. Not everyone is as trustworthy as you might think they are.
