Once you have
been fully
prepped for the
operation, your
physician will
complete the
entire
procedure in
less than 15
minutes for
both eyes. This
may seem like
an astoundingly
short time to
permanently
correct your
vision, but it
has worked on
thousands of
people. You
should notice
an improvement
in your
eyesight almost
immediately,
but you will be
told not to
strain your
eyes by testing
them out – no
matter how
tempting it
is.
Also, it is
important to
realize that
there are many
steps which you
should take
yourself in
order to
prefect your
eyesight. The
care does not
stop
immediately
after the
operation. It
could actually
take up to six
months for your
vision to
stabilize
permanently. If
you take time
to look after
your eyes
immediately
after the
operation then
you will be
giving yourself
the best chance
for good
results.
You will
usually be
given a
protective
shield for your
eyes which
should be worn
as long as
specified by
your physician,
which is
usually only at
night for one
or two nights.
You might also
be told to wear
sunglasses
during the day
as you may
experience
sensitivity to
light once the
procedure has
been done. You
will need to
talk about all
of these issues
with your
physician
before the
surgery has
been completed
so you take
care of your
eyes as best
you
can.
You will be
given eye drops
to take
afterwards for
a few days so
that your eyes
stay moist;
although what
drops you take
and for how
long will all
depend on your
individual
case. If you
are prone to
dry eyes, you
will be given
stronger
drops.
It is also wise
to turn off all
fans and air
con devises for
a few days
afterwards.
You
will be
able to
return to
work and
normal
daily
duties the
day after
your
operation.
You
shouldn’t
require
any
assistance
from
friends or
family and
there is
very
little
discomfort
afterwards.
One bit of
advice
which you
should
follow is
to go to
sleep as
quickly as
possible
after
surgery so
that your
eyes rest
immediately.
When you
wake, you
should
automatically
notice an
improvement
in your
eyesight.
This improved
vision however
will probably
not be the
final product
and your eyes
should continue
to improve. It
can take a few
months in some
cases while in
others a week
or so is long
enough. The
immediate
improvement may
be accompanied
by blurriness
when reading or
halos around
lights at night
time. This will
only be
temporary and
is nothing to
worry about.
The
improvements
for
nearsightedness
normally appear
a lot quicker
than with
farsightedness.
If
you are
improving your
vision for
farsightedness,
there could be
a temporary
blurring of
objects in the
distance, but
like all other
side effects,
this will
correct itself
after a week or
so. If you are
at all worried
however, don’t
hesitate to
contact your
physician. You
may even be
give temporary
glasses to
wear.
If
you follow the
advice given by
your physician,
you should not
run into any
problems.
Post-operative
care is as
important as
the surgery
itself for
ensuring that
your vision is
corrected
permanently.
