Lasik Procedure Eye Care

If you are considering having Lasik surgery to improve your vision, you should make sure that you first of all find the best surgeon that your budget will allow and that you are the happiest with and also make sure that you that you keep up to date with all post-op procedures and care. The vast majority of surgery goes extremely well with no reported problems. Over 90 per cent of patients are very happy with the result.   Part of this success is down to the aftercare, which is why it is so important to keep up with the care.

You should always make sure that you follow the aftercare instructions that the surgeon gives you. If you do not, you could face running into problems. Your surgeon should make it clear exactly what you need to do in the time immediately after the operation and also in the weeks afterwards. On the day of your surgery, you should have someone go through everything with you and tell you step for step what you need to do. Make sure that you understand exactly what you need to do in order to ensure a complete recovery.

You need to be clear about what side effects, if any, you should expect; especially for the period immediately after surgery. You also need to check what symptoms need to be reported as soon as possible. You need to be able to distinguish what you can ignore and what need to be taken to te doctor. Make sure that you are absolutely clear on these points.

Every Lasik surgeon has their own procedures which they recommend for out patient aftercare. This article lists a few recommended procedures, but be sure to check with your surgeon as to whether there are any more that you should do because every case is different. The first thing you should do is try and get some sleep as soon as possible after you have had the operation. This will really help   with the healing process. You should also avoid rubbing your eyes for at least five days after surgery. You will be given eye guards to wear at night from the surgeon and if you don’t, be sure to ask for some. This will prevent you from rubbing your eyes in your sleep. 

The third thing you should do is avoid straining your eyes for a few days after the procedure. You will no doubt be very tempted to try and read as many signs and small letters as you can, but don’t. Also, avoid the sun’s glare. Make sure you wear sunglasses if it is sunny outside as your eyes may be particularly sensitive to light. A common side effect after Lasik surgery is the appearance of halos around lights, especially at night, but you should not be overly concerned about this.

It is vital that the eyes are kept well lubricated in the days immediately following surgery. You will be given eye drops to help with this and you should be especially aware of lubricating your eyes before you go to bed. You may find that your eyes are extra dry immediately after surgery and for a few days following it, and when you wake up after sleeping, your eyelid may slightly stick to the eye. There are different strengths of eye drops should ths become a real problem.  

If you follow these steps as well as any advice which your surgeon gives you, you should have no problems whatsoever.
