An Ideal Kayaking Destination - Hawaii

Hawaii is an ideal destination for kayaking as you can enjoy a peaceful paddle along a serene and beautiful river or you can chase the rapids and experience the ocean. The most popular places for kayakers are Kauai, Maui and Molokai. You will find that kayaking gives you access to some of the most stunning areas in Hawaii which would otherwise be inaccessible.

Kauai is the only island in Hawaii with a river which suits kayaking. The Wailua River can be found at the east of the island and is very popular among water sports enthusiasts. The right side of the river is set aside solely for kayaking. The valley alongside the river was once only available for Royalty and is still considered sacred by many. It is a very gentle river with beautiful scenery and an abundance of wildlife. You will find tropical flora, ancient relics, impressive waterfalls, pristine rainforest and traditional Hawaiian villages.

If you would like to embark on a kayaking trip, you will find that there are many tour companies which operate here and will be able to give you advice on where to go, although the two most popular locations are the Secret Falls and Fern Grotto. Kayaking is a great adventure for two people as double kayaks are available and you will even find that triple kayaks can be hired. You will need to check details with a tour guide because some places are restricted at certain times and while there is plenty more to see, you do not want to be disappointed.

Kayaking tours around Maui offer something for all levels. There are beginner’s tours as well as surfing tours and extreme kayaking opportunities. Makena tours and Honolua Bay tours are popular choices. If you prefer to get close to life under the sea, the tour company Kayaking Makena Landing offers the chance to kayak among eels, octopus, reef sharks, turtles, tropical fish and even the odd whales and dolphin.

Hawaii is an ideal destination for kayaking as you can enjoy a peaceful paddle along a serene and beautiful river or you can chase the rapids and experience the ocean. Pali Sea Cliff is a secluded area boasting a craggy coastline, imposing cliffs and beautiful reefs. Hawaiian green sea turtles are native here and are popular with every visitor. Honolua Bay is an aquatic reserve brimming with reefs and tropical fish, although it can be windy so a good level of fitness is required.

Molokai is really suited to experienced kayakers as the ocean can be fairly rough, making it too dangerous for beginners. The coastline is extremely under-developed allowing nature’s beauty to shine, but it is recommended only to follow the coast east to west as the wind makes it very hard work on the way back.

Hawaii's Kona coast allows people to explore the hidden gems of Kealakekua Bay, Keahou, Ho'okena, Honaunau and Kailua. Kealakekua Bay is a protected bay and is a conservation area. It is home to a number of Hawaiian Chiefs and is also where Captain Cook first landed. There is an impressive monument of the captain to mark the spot.

Just across the water from the bay, kayakers will be rewarded with over 250 species of tropical fish. It is possible to hire glass kayaks to ensure that you get the most out of your experience.

Keahuou Bay is the birthplace of the famous chief Kamehameha the great. You will find extremely calm waters here as well as fascinating sea caves and imposing cliffs

Wherever you choose to visit in Hawaii, you will be rewarded with beauty and tranquility. There are also enough areas offering adrenalin rushes that no one will get bored. It is up to you how you spend you time, but one thing is for sure; you will not be disappointed.
