Television shows about
home renovations have a habit of making
everything look nice and easy. This is actually
a problem because not everything is that
simple. What they often fail to mention is that
it is usually trained professionals doing those
home renovations who know exactly what to do,
what materials are needed and which tools to
use. There is in fact a lot more involved in
renovating your home than is often portrayed
and while they do have some great ideas, it is
always important to remember that you will need
a lot more planning and practicing before you
get it right.
These television home
renovations shows generally take homes which
are completely run down and turn them into mini
palaces. The newest craze around is flipping
houses !V buying to sell. When you flip a
house, you buy one in a run down condition,
renovate it for as little money and work as
possible and sell it for a profit. Again, these
shows make this act dangerously easy when it
really isn!|t so simple. More often than not,
profits aren!|t nearly as high as the buyer
expected and there is usually disappointment
all round. These shows might give some ideas,
but making money isn!|t that easy, neither is
completely renovating a house in a matter of
weeks.
Just a Few Tweaks and You're
There - or Are You?
Home renovations show on
TV can make aspects such as replacing walls
look really easy. In a show lasting 30 minutes,
the walls of a room can be taken down and
rebuilt with what appears to be no problems at
all. This can be dangerous and lead people to
trying out tasks which they would never have
even thought about because it looks so simple
and then they end up with a big mess.
Television shows often fail to mention that
some walls are load bearing and that by
removing one of these; you could cause parts of
your house to collapse. Not a great lesson to
have to learn!
The moral of this story
is to be very careful when watching these home
renovations shows and always bear in mind that
things are never as simple as they seem and
that without experience, you could cause more
problems than you intended to fix. The
contractors working on these shows are usually
professionals who know what they are doing and
without the right tools, materials and advice
you could be setting yourself up for a very big
fall.
