Looiking for Hearing Aids for Dogs?

If you or I had a problem with out hearing, we would look into the possibility of solving that problem with a hearing aid. We would never be expected to simply adapt without trying to improve our hearing, yet we expect our dogs to simply carry on with life as they did before.

Many dogs live a long and healthy life nowadays, although as they reach their teen years, it is common for certain conditions to exist and one of these is hearing loss. You can tell if your dog is losing his/her hearing because they simply won’t respond when you call them, unless they are looking right at you. Other tell tale signs are not responding when someone comes to the front door; when he/she is asleep you can only wake them by touching them; you may also find that they shake their head and seem to be bothered by their ears a lot. It should be easy to tell if your dog has a hearing problem. There is a solution for hearing loss as you can actually get hearing aids designed specifically for dogs.

There is a clinic in Texas which offers hearing tests for dogs and once the test has been completed, the owner can find out if it can be improved with a hearing aid. The clinic spends approximately one month getting the dog used to the hearing aid. During this time, the volume is gradually increased until it reaches the correct level. This way; it is not such a shock to the animal when the hearing aid is turned on. Hearing aids for the dogs cost approximately $250 each and this includes the month initializing program.

Where is my dog? Maybe it doesn't like hearing aids for dogs A common type of hearing aids for canines is a device which sits on a collar and is similar in design and style to a BTE hearing aid used on humans. The concept is that tubes co from the device to a foam plug which has been placed inside the ear. Smaller dogs seem to have adapted to this kind of aid a lot better than the larger breeds.

There are also ITE (in the ear) hearing aids available. It is necessary to take a mould of the dog’s ear canal for this device which is then sent to a lab where the hearing aid is made. There is always a question however of whether or not your dog will accept having the aid in his/her ear because not all dogs do. While many owners feel that it is worth the money just to try, other people cannot afford it. Check with your insurance as some companies will pay for the cost of the hearing aid

The sound of your voice is a comfort to your dog. They will feel safer once they can hear it again and will also gain in confidence as there is no need to be so conscious of whether there is any danger around. Your dog will undoubtedly be happier and will improve their life significantly.
