Care for Pet Ferret

A pet ferret is a wonderful addition to the family.  Like other types of pets, a pet ferret enjoys companionship, affection and all the needed comforts for living.  Pet ferrets behave different than traditional pets and each ferret has a unique personality.

Before adopting a pet ferret, make sure you can afford adequate housing, veterinarian bills and general living expenses such as food, bedding and toys.  Ferrets are social animals and you will need to have time to give to your new family member.

Adoption of a ferret can be done at any age. However, keep in mind that the younger ferrets will be easier to socialize and incorporate into the family structure than the older ones.  Ferrets are happiest when someone is playing with them and giving them lots of social interaction and affection.

Ferrets need plenty of daily exercise and play time outside of their cages.  However, they cannot be left alone out in the home like a cat or dog because ferrets tend to be mischievous and can get into a lot of trouble if left unsupervised.

Care for Pet FerretIf your home already has a cat or dog, make sure to introduce and socialize the ferret into the household. You will quickly find out if your new pet ferret and your other pets are going to become friends. Never leave a ferret and another animal unsupervised in case there is a dispute or problem.  Because of their playful nature, pet ferrets should not be put into homes with pet birds, rabbits, mice or guinea pigs.

A pet ferret is a terrific addition to your family. As with all other pets, make sure you have time to devote to your new addition and that you can supervise playtime.  You will learn your pet ferret's personality and have many years of enjoyment together!
