Life Management of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia are two medical conditions whose origins and causes are yet to be firmly and
definitively established by the medical community. The symptoms of these two conditions are similar, and in most cases, overlap. However, the
medical community is still uncertain if these two conditions are different or if they are simply one disease showing subtle differences.
With both Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia, patients find themselves tired during the day and experience sleep
problems in the evenings. Part of managing both diseases is medication to assist in getting the patient on a normal sleep routine and alleviate
fatigue.
Muscle pain is also experienced by patients with either Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Fibromyalgia. Light exercise that
will not cause excessive fatigue such as swimming in warm water or yoga has shown relief for sufferers of both conditions. Some physicians also
prescribe pain medications to help with the muscle discomfort. However, it is advised that patients do not engage in exercise activities that are
too strenuous as they are likely to find themselves severely fatigues afterwards.
Many people with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia suffer from "brain fog." "Brain fog" tends to interrupt the
ability to concentrate and often cognitive abilities are impaired in both of these diseases. The medical community has not yet come up with
a treatment for "brain fog" although there are several methods that show promise. Biofeedback and anti-depressants seem to help alleviate
the "brain fog" symptoms in some patients.
Both diseases appear to be affected by diet. In this regard, it is best to bring in a nutritionist who has familiarity with
these two conditions. Patients of both Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia are advised to stay away from caffeine, highly processed foods
and alcoholic drinks.
Managing Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia is not an easy task. Every area of a sufferer's life is affected --
economic, social, family, work and emotional. Even the sufferer's families and friends can experience the difficulty of these two conditions.
The best way to manage Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia is by enlisting the help of support groups, self-monitoring of
health and symptoms and closely following doctor recommendations.
