Preventing Anxiety Attacks

Anxiety attacks, which are also referred to as panic attacks, are much more common nowadays than they use to be. Heightened stress in the workplace, problems with finances or a family crisis contribute to the increasing and more frequent occurrence of anxiety attacks. The busier and more stressful our life becomes, the more our health suffers.

Feelings that may have been building up for years are triggered by stressful situations that result in anxiety attacks. This is important to think about, because anxiety attacks or panic attacks can happen to anyone, anytime. In fact, most people don't even realize that they have just had an anxiety attack because they simply chalk it up to stress. They are unaware that they could be suffering from a serious medical condition. The initial symptoms that a person may experience when having an anxiety attack includes rapid heart rate and breathing, dry mouth, sweating, chest pains, nausea and tingling or numbness in the limbs.

Preventing Anxiety AttacksPeople with anxiety disorder can manage their anxiety attacks in a number of ways. The best way to control anxiety attacks is prevention. After the condition is diagnosed, a doctor may prescribe medication. Alternative medicine such as herbs (e.g., wild yam, ginsenng, borage, chamomile, licorice, nettle kava, mile thistle, inositol and St. John's worth) have helped some in managing their anxiety attacks. It is important to talk to your doctor regarding your condition so he can assist you in getting your condition under control by using medication or herbs. There are also other remedies to explore. Acupuncture and exercise, accompanied by yoga or aerobic activities, have been proven to reduce stress and increase a positive mental outlook.
