Alzheimers or Senior Issues?

Have you observed your mother placing her car keys in the refrigerator or television remote in the kitchen cabinets recently? Your name is Donna but yesterday, she mistakenly called you " Wanda”. She was also looking for "the thing you use for brushing your teeth”. She continues to relate the same tale of the cat that enjoys playing with paper towel rolls. At some point, one must no longer brush symptoms off as senior issues; they must realize that they are signs of Alzheimers disease.

It is perfectly normal for an older person to walk into a room and momentarily forget why or to experience temporary difficulty remembering a particular word. You may forget petty and or important things such as names of persons, appointments, days and many others. You may make a terrible choice or may discover that balancing your checkbook to be impossible. There are a number of ways by which the aging people who don’t have Alzhemers diagnosed can enhance the function of their brain, such as taking fish oil supplements, increasing work outs, solving word puzzles, reading and gaining some interesting hobbies.

Alzheimers symptoms by contrast, are more frequent and are of a greater severity than normal issues of aging. Persons who under mental or emotional breakdowns or depression usually exhibit drastic mood swings, personality changes, and temporary memory loss. Some of the symptoms exhibited by Alzheimers patients include lethargy, substitution of words, and asking the same questions over and over. Patients inflicted with the progressive Alzheimers disease may forget all sorts of things and entire experiences, and soon they will not be able to care for themselves. As the symptoms of Alzheimers disease intensify, it may become necessary to move to an assisted living facility.

Methods of coping are available to seniors whose Alzheimers symptoms progress. An Alzheimers support group is a good start for caregivers to learn new ways for dealing with situations and dealing with unhealthy emotions, like frustration or depression. Razadyne and Exeleon might inhibit deterioration for Alzheimers patients. Symptoms of Alzheimers are known to slow down if Vitamins E and C are given along with Estrogen therapy to prevent the brain from further injury.

If you are dealing with an elderly parent with dementia (or other debilitating illness) this is a god-send. Just reading this reduced my stress level greatly and helped me be more patient and tolerant of my 93 yo parent who has mild dementia. Thank you for writing this. I have asked my daughter to read this so she can have these insights when I become old, feeble, etc.
