Nighttime performance can be enhanced with infrared LED lighting that is included with some surveillance cameras. If you are merely monitoring a child or livestock, you may be content with a remote monitor, but a more complete system will have a switching system rotating between multiple cameras, to cover your entire home and surrounding area, and will be connected to a video recorder to make a record of the sounds and images captured by the cameras, along with a date/time stamp to provide an evidentiary record.
